Chaos and Hard Times: A Heretical Story of Modern Life

The true history of The Esoteric Wanderer began many years before the life of A.R. Veridis.

As far as is known, in the 1930’s the family matriarch became a follower of Herbert W. Armstrong, a self-anointed prophet, and snake oil peddler meandering the desert hills of California. Not surprisingly, support of Hitler, and the totalitarian German Reich followed a few years later.

The same family member strayed further off the beaten path in the 50’s and spend 20 years practicing a solitary form of Gardenian paganism, taking family further and further away from normal society. Full circle was attained when the matriarch found herself back in the folds of Herbert Armstrong and his church-now called The World-Wide Church of God- a known New Religious Movement with strong cult doctrines-and again totalitarian in nature.

But the damage was already done. The eccentric personality, isolationism, and seeming attraction to extreme ideologies was passed along generations of family-laying a foundation rich in strangeness, and a lurid fascination with what could only be considered marginal belief systems ripe with paranoid conspiracy minded believers.

By the time the late 80’s came around, America had long since begun Its own spiral down the path many religious communities believed were end times.
However, much like a convict released into the light of day from the dark walls of prison, A.R. Veridis in so many ways a convict of innocence, ventured into the shadows of a world he would eventually find to be as dark and confining as any prison yard.
